Final Exhibition - Photography
Well, this it in my final project in my 3rd year, my final piece of work that will be displayed through the University of Chester.
As you have seen in previous posts I have been looking at social interaction and behaviours because of the pandemic I was unable to continue studio work because I didn't have equipment at home but also because I couldn't use the people I had been using previously to model. So, I researched some photographers and found the idea of portraits via video call and I had a sudden thought that this could really work for my project, so I started to contact people and get images from them which worked out really well as I was happy to get the main people I had been working with in a photograph now.
As I continued to shoot I found myself asking them, how are you finding interacting with people and do you think you'll change how you interact when all this is over. We've become so used to social distancing that will we start doing this naturally in the future who knows?
So I thought why not create this story, how you interacted before, how you interact now during the pandemic and how you think you will interact afterwards. I was able to work with photographs and text to show this process and I came up with 2 different pieces of work.
One if my exhibition was physical, which would be in the form of a concertina book. I felt that this wouldn't work as well for the virtual exhibition because I would want you to be able to feel the way the book reads, instead of flicking through a book onscreen. So I created what my virtual exhibition would look like and how you would follow the story that way, this would be a flat piece on a wall which would allow you to follow along with the curser and explore the images alone and then be presented with the text at the end.
I feel that I really found myself during this project and it made me realise that I love portraits and being able to be in connection with other people. I enjoy collaborating and listening to people's stories and experiences. I feel that I really found my place in photography through this project.
