ABOUT ME

Hello, welcome! My name is Kayli Harrison, born and raised in Wigan, Greater Manchester, I am a 21 year old student at the University of Chester studying Photography and Graphic Design, my background in photography starts at school using my little pink LG cookie and snapping away at flowers and trees, taking art at school was the start of my interest in photography as I was unable to draw... I know what you're thinking, why did you take art?

The answer to that is there were no other creative subjects, apart from technology which was either building electrical circuits or building things with wood, which I was not good at. So art was my only other route, however this was great because it was basically just an umbrella term, our teachers allowed us to explore with all different kinds of disciplines which is why I became interested in photography.

It boosted me into the digital world. Moving onto college I was able to take a Photography course at A Level, combining it with Graphic Design and I loved it even though I had no previous experience within the graphic design world. I worked on all kinds of projects, from advertisements to branding to illustrations it helped me to start learning what my style was and what I enjoyed doing.

Over the past few years my work has been documentary but as I am in my final year, I want to try something new, I have always been interested in studio work but never had the confidence to get in there, which is why I am pushing myself to do that this year. My skills have developed a lot over the 3 years at University, from the use of photoshop to illustrator to working with studio lighting and analogue photography to learning the basics for branding and editorial design. I have been able to learn new skills that I wasn't able to pick up during college. In some cases being able to combine both skill sets to create final pieces of work. Looking into my future I am not entirely set on what subject area I would like to go into, I really love photography and how you are able to capture the moments. I feel that my strengths lie with photography. However, I have really started to enjoy graphic design, I have found myself researching and looking into the design world a lot more this year. So at the moment, I feel that I should see where it takes me as I have strength and weakness' in both subjects.
